I'm a senior event planner and project manager looking to transition to a film and TV production role, what would be the best first steps?
I have extensive experience in event project planning and delivery, team management, budgeting and forecasting including full profit and loss responsibility, international business development, content production, logistics, sales and marketing strategy. I also run a photography side business, giving me another decade of experience in creative sector. I heard people with no film and TV experience tend to start in the industry as runners. I don't mind looking for this type of role but seems like an awful waste of my skills and experience. Is there an alternative route to the sector with the above highly transferable skillset? Thank you

- Hi Daria, did you ever make that move? I'm in a similar position currently, considering a transition from Creative & Digital Project Management into Film Production and would love to chat and exchange experiences.
- @Freya Dyson thank you. I'm aware of Skreenskills and have already applied for some courses. I'll going with them.
- @Zoe Russell-Turner really helpful, thank you.
- I think starting to work in a TV production company in any capacity is the first step. I started this way as a studio manager, then project manager, then production assistant.. and worked up to producer. Once in a production company you can be put forward to the APA and apply for their production masterclass course. It used to be 6 months, evenings only and was free.. not sure if this is now on hold.So yeh find some agencies, production companies you admire and keep tabs on any openings you already have project management under your belt so start there or as a studio manager then get stuck in and offer to help anywhere you can. I hope this helps!
