I'm a young filmmaker (making my first film - age 16) and am asking if anyone could give some advice, especially in production?

I have finished my screenplay and am working on storyboarding. Any advice would be very welcome!

  • Hello,

Ask for help from people around you and even reach out to people you don't necessarily know, you would be surprised to know how many people are willing to assist.

    Good luck.
  • Hi Lily

My advice if you're just starting out would be to not get too hung up on each element of the production. Keep moving forward!

The best way to both learn about the process of filmmaking and where you fit into it is to make a film from start to finish, write it, shoot it, do the edit, then show it to people and get frustrated at their reaction to it. The end result is never exactly what you want but you will learn so much and put your insights into the next project.

Once you've done that you will understand the whole process and should learn which parts you enjoy and which you don't.

    Good luck!
  • Do whatever feels good, make it stand out, be different. Mind the ligting and the camera's position. Fear nothing!
  • Hey, it's good you are on storyboarding. Try to get characters that would fit effortlessly into the roles. Also try not to make the designs too complicated so you and the crew would interpret and act them as you want. I don't think you have to spend tonnes of quids on equipments and the rest too. All the best Lily.
