I'm going freelance and need a website. Can I put the projects that I've done for clients when I worked as an employee within an agency?

  • Hello, I am in a similar situation as I'm going completely freelance after three years working as a designer for a HE research center. I solved it directly emailing my former director, sharing what I wanted to put on my website and finally asking them permission for sharing it online. In my case they had no objections and they were fine with it, and even the fact that I reached out before was deeply appreciated. So, if you are in good relationship with your former company, maybe just write to them, list the projects you would like to share in your portfolio, and ask them if they're fine and what information about the project you have to share (the company's name, the team, your personal role, etc.).
    Good luck!
  • You will need to mention the agency that you did the work for, client . And put the work up after the launch . If the agency or client say anything you can take the work , but unless they are complete irrational companies I doubt they will .

  • I believe this may go on a case by case basis, my contract as an employee states my work produced for the company belongs to the company and so does the IP. However, they are OK with me including these in my portfolio if I clearly state it was work done for them and what my involvement was.
