Interview questions for an Art Director position?

Hello, once again, fellow dotters.

So this is the second time today posting a question on here, and I'm getting such great feedback and advice from many of you, and I hope you can help me out once again.

So, I'll potentially be having an interview soon for an Art Director position which is more senior and managerial then I've had before, and I want to be prepared as much as possible for it.

I'm very confident in my portfolio and myself. I have six years in the design industry so I know I have the experience to back it up, but I'm unsure on what type of questions I'll be asked, so, I'm asking if you guys could suggest some possible questions I would get in an interview.

Also, what are the qualities that are sought after in an Art Director, and if you wouldn't mind having a look at my site (https://ahmedmohamed.co.uk/), do you think I have the abilities to fit the role?

I believe if I have some idea of what I'll be asked, I wouldn't be as anxious, so any feedback or possible questions are all welcomed.

Thank you :-)

  • Thank you so much @Dave Polayah, @Melanie Williams and @Nicholas Castle for the great feedback and even kinder words. It's what I needed to hear.

You've all touched on the main attributes that I'll need to showcase as both a designer and a leader. Now having some idea of what I'll be asked has given me a lot of confidence going in.

I can't thank you all enough.

    You're the best :-)
  • If there are managerial responsibilities, I'd personally be drilling you hard on those skills.

    - how would you deal with a problematic situation or member of staff/your team
    - project delegation and time keeping
    - staff appraisal and staff development structure
    - negotiation and resolution skills between key project contributors.

At this level, your creative abilities should almost be a-given. You'll be expected to have a far more 'overall' view and mindset. How are you going to repond when the pieces on the board get moved around? Can you develop relationships with clients and members of staff? Can your employer put you infront of clients and expect you to solidify their position.

Can you inspire? You need to be able to get the best out of people and they need to want to work with you.
  • Your work is amazing!!! Youll walk the interview if your portfolio is anything to go by! Good luck
  • What do bring to the table that’s different from other designer

Where do you find your inspiration And what do you do outside work that feeds into your inspo

A lot of it is about you - so be yourself! Don’t try and be something you’re not

Ask pertinent questions about them, they like to see you’ve done you’re research

What are you like working individually and solo as we’re all working from home it’s important
