Is having a professional writer/CV editor review your resume a good thing to do?

I'm curious to see what happens if I apply for jobs with an amended CV from a professional editor (whom is an artist themselves).

  • @Bethany Jones totally agree. Unless someone is literally with you in person, interviewing you before assisting with your CV, I don't think anyone can really grasp your true potential.
  • I saw a CV editor recently share that the money you'd spend on a new outfit or something to make yourself feel good could be better spent on professional interview coaching.

It was an interesting perspective, but then there is heaps of advice for free online too. I guess the worry is that if someone else edits your CV will it be as true to you, or will it end up being kind of generic?
  • @Anna Dora L. Thank you!!! So few months back i paid someone (who isn't an artist but a business person) to re-edit it for me. He made it so generic and everything he wrote was too extra. Good that it's not really required. Have been having issues finding work, probably its more related to geographical location and covid.
  • Hello Tyler,

I had my CV checked with an editor, she also wrote a book etc.. She highlighted some bits but it wasn't life changing by the end of the day it's your CV. You are the one who knows you the most. It's good to have someone check it anyway but as long as they can check language / grammar mistakes it shouldn't be a big difference who is actually checking.
