May I please ask for your critique of my portfolio? Identity / UI designer.

Bit of background: I'm a logo / identity designer gearing to break into a UI position.

Recently, my main focus has been producing projects according to the Daily UI Challenge which you can find across a plethora of my portfolio profiles.

  • @Ben Hoath You are welcome. Cool, that you liked it! I created these mockups.
  • @Nestor Kalynyak Thanks - I'll be sure to make my posts more meaty with development shots in the future.
I really like your Neptune Drink branding project, particularly the octopus emerging from the envelope - such a cool idea! Those mockups really show off the project well. Where did you get the mockup psd files from?
  • Hi Ben. I like you Daily 005 - App icon. I think it will be good to upload more images in some projects (ex. Daily UI 001 - Sign Up / Sign In).
Image from another view or zoom in.

  • @Ashley Drew Ah lovely, okay I'l check it out.
I see why you suggested having my thumbnails larger...I just got slapped in the face by your large and amazing content, haha!
I'm on a 27" iMac so I felt like it was maybe too large for me - your website scaled nicely, though, so viewing with a lower resolution helped to view more of your content at once.
Something I'd like to point out: because I am viewing your website at a larger resolution, your green hero banner was starting to show signs of pixelation. Perhaps look into that?
Your Norwegian Wood project really resonated with me. Congrats on getting shortlists for it - very well deserved :D
  • Would be even better if you could get an .svg export for your logo as it's currently looking a little pixel.

In the about I would avoid saying that Sublime is a side-project even if you are freelancing at the side you don't want to give the wrong idea. Side-project might come across as something that you cannot give your full attention to. :)
  • @Josh Medrano Thanks Josh, I appreciate your kind words and time.
I really enjoy UI design because it opens the door to other avenues for me. Logo design can be quite linear but I'm constantly fascinated by identity design. Ultimately, I want to work as a UX designer.
Your Henry's Honey project really resonated with me - some really cool ideas there!
  • @Ashley Drew Very interesting feedback, thank you. Would you mind pointing out which square were out of line? Thank you so much for your time!
I'd love to view and feedback on your portfolio to return the favour, if you have a link?
  • I really like the flow of the Hever Castle one, it is good to see the direct influence of the patterns & how the text emulates the chaotic nature of the pattern. The App Icon & Pixmix ones are great as well & well-pushed.

Do you find designing for UI an easy transition coming from a logo/design background ? I was thinking of jumping into UI myself, but I find UI output in general to be quite underwhelming for my style.
  • Hey,

It looks good, you have a nice range of work - my main thought would be make your work bigger! so have it at full width? and make sure its all lined up as a couple squares are out of line!
