  • Personal branding and PR Networking is the way to go. If you want to approach freelancing as a long-term revenue generation plan, you really need to build and grow your profile. Its not just about getting clients in the beginning, its also more about the value you are offering to your target audience. Why they should work with you? How can you make a difference in their business? How can you become their go-to person for every business query and solution? Getting client is easy, building rapport is hard. Focus on building rapport, you will never have to TRY to get any single client - they'll come quick and easy.
  • Simply put - You've got to get yourself in front of prospective clients - first thing to ascertain is who they are and where to find them. So... Who is your ideal client? What industry are they in? Where do they hang out?

You then have some follow up questions to consider. What are you offering? What value does it bring to them? (ultimately if you are not helping their bottom line in somer tangible way you need to think about how you express less tangible value adding, such as branding or anything that impacts work culture for example.

That, coupled with some example work, portfolio, case study, or demonstrable experience/enthusiasm and you are good to go... networking. This takes multiple forms and every contact you have is a potential node in your network - online, offline wherever you think is an effective place to start - e.g. local networking groups, this site (cough, splutter), linkedin etc etc

This is your pipeline, your funnel - or at least the first section. If you need help with motivation a coach or mentor can help but go and find one that works for you, makes you feel good about what you want to achieve and energizes you - even iof they challenge your assumptions or process.

If you need structure around your idea to make it feel more tangible and utlimately easier to sell to prospects, you may find creating a business plan a useful tool - you may not - some people suffer from analysis paralysis so don't get hung up on it. However, in the past, I have found the business model canvas to be a useful aid... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_Model_Canvas

Good luck - remember that the relationships you build can stay with you throughout your career. Nurture them.
