Opinion needed for upcoming exhibition: what book should I take a scene from and convert into a set?

This July I will be putting together a collection of artwork for an exhibition. As a film graduate with a particular interest in prop making and sets, I will be building a set in the gallery space, in order to highlight and pay homage to the amazing work of art departments in the film, television, and theatre industries. However, due to copywright laws, I will be drawing from a text that is in the public domain. I was wondering which of these books people would find themselves most interested and intrigued to see a set from when visiting a gallery:

- 1984, George Orwell
- The Tempest, Shakespeare
- Peter Pan, J M Barrie

Which would spark your imagination? Which would draw you in? Similarly, if anyone has any suggestions of texts that they think would be interesting source material for set and prop creation, shout them out!

Thank you! <3

  • I remeber seeing a production in theatre for 1984 I'm always amazed how different people interpret the visuals differently down to the small details!
  • Peter Pan 100% - Imagine the fun you could have..
I kind of feel we are already living in 1984 and maybe using this as an excuse to escape the drama of 2020 (and it appears 2021 haha) would be a nice change.
Let me know if you need a hand with the setup, goodluck!
