Pitch decks and mood boards for winning video production jobs

Hi all,
Pitch decks and mood boards for winning video production jobs remain a bit of a mystery to me.
Has anyone seen any good sites, been to any good courses...?

I don't understand how you find images that actually work for your (orginal, unproduced?!) idea.

Thank you for any leads!

  • @Adam Neale Thank you! Good to know you feel the same. I think doing decks depends on having a photographic memory for everything you've seen!
    Thanks again

  • @Sebastian Whyte Thank you so much Sebastian. Will look at all these places. I had forgotten about Pinterest. I did spend quite a long time on Shotdeck the other day but I couldn't seem to find anything that fitted.
Will try not to get bogged down by the format.
    Thanks again

  • Hey Christiana

You’ll find plenty of YouTube “tutorials” and tips for making decks and pitches. And in the end none of that really matters, just speak in your voice, keep it simple, short and get your idea across. Most importantly remember the main point isn’t to show off your deck making skills but your skills to “sell” the client/product/artist/film etc.

As for images, places like Pinterest, Filmgrab and shotdeck are all great resource that are searchable by themes etc. Or of course the well known image libraries. I find that I can’t always find images that are exact but if they have the right sentiment that is just as good.
Also I try to make sure the images are all close in visual style as much as possible (again the film screengrab sites are great for this). Also you can always take screengrabs from your favourite videos, films etc.

    Good luck.

  • I can help you - practically - illustrate your pitch deck or storyboard.

  • It is really difficult to communicate your ideas for shots that don't exist yet. I'm often found badly photoshopping one image into another to try to give a sense of what I mean. Unless you're talented at drawing it is tough but here's a good resource that might prove useful for mood boards: https://shotdeck.com/
