Self employed book keeping and HMRC tax advice/tips please...

Hi. Can anyone recommend the best/simplest way to submit an HMRC tax return? Do you just hire an accountant? Do you use the HMRC portal? Do you use specific book keeping software? Is it good for creative? Does it help with knowing what you can claim against or not? All these questions. Any tips you can share are most welcome.

  • If you are a self employed I would recommend using Quickbooks to do your book keeping and then submitting your own tax return through the HMRC portal. If you are set up as a limited company, you will need an accountant. I use Crunch Accountants. They have their own software that you can use online to do all your book keeping.
