Skate in Japan - feature documentary film teaser feedback

Hey all, I was wondering if anyone could provide some feedback on my feature documentary film teaser? It's a film about skateboarding in contrast to Japanese society.
Feel free to share it if you think anyone might be interested.

  • @Steffan Roe Griffiths Very sad. Awesome about Japan.

Regarding sponsorship, it depends on what you'd like, exhibition, pop up, screenings - anything is possible from small shoops to bigger brands I'm sure, a few spring to mind. Drop me a DM if you like or on website/email!

Enjoyed the Gary Stevenson mini, just saw an article via The Times about him actually, I'm going to share your films. What is your instagram/socials pplease?

    Have a good week :)
  • @Steffan Roe Griffiths Oh it was such a great one and I have no idea what happened to Travis but read the comments.

Yeah, defo, the font is fine/good :)

The interviews were super cool and in Japan that must be very cool, do you live there? look forward to seeing it when its ready!

Yeah, an exhibition would be cool, I'm sure you could get some cool sponsorship etc...

I'll keep an eye out for more of your work and will check out the other documentaries over the weekend
  • @Linsey M Thanks for checking out Skate in LA. Glad you enjoyed it! And yeah it’s very sad what happened to Travis.

Nice that you agree re the font.

With Skate in LA, I didn’t know the people before I interviewed them. With Skate in Japan, I knew them already, and am filming with them long term.

I don’t have a plan to do an exhibition of the films, but it’s an interesting ideas!

Again, great to hear that you’ve been enjoying my work. Thanks a lot for your support Linsey!

I’ll share more on the-dots as I complete different pieces
  • @Steffan Roe Griffiths Pleasure, loved watching it, just checked out Skate in LA too (and will check out the other later too), sad about Travis Bracken the guy interviewed.

Yeah, the font honestly wasn't a huge thing just an observation and totally agree regarding everything else feeling emotive/aesthetically then leave it, it works.

Look forward to seeing more of your work, so great to see you doing them and interesting to hear some of the interviews as to the skate scene nowadays - the fishbowl comment resonated regading a lot of things today, interesting insights. Do you have a plan of who you'll interview or go with cool characters who are happy to on the day?

Are you doing them as a series to be used for something exhibited? curious, they are great either way, of course :) Look forward to the other teasers. I'll definitely share them with others.
  • @Linsey M Hi Linsey, thanks for the reply. Always a pleasure to hear when someone has this kind of emotional reaction to my work. It’ll be roughly another year before the feature doc is released. But I’ll release another teaser or two before then (I prefer to treat the teasers more as short films in themselves).

Totally get where you’re coming from re the font. The feedback is v much appreciated. Personally, I feel that if people can read it, and it feels right aesthetically / emotionally, I do my best to stick with it.

And thanks so much - I’d love it if you could share the teaser with others you feel may be interested.
And you can see my other work on my YouTube channel:

    Thank you again Linsey!
  • @Steffan Roe Griffiths LOVE it, visually delightful and can't wait to watch the dull documentary, where can I watch it?
(The only thing I noticed and unsure there would be an alternative, the text sometimes was trickier to see against some of the background colours - but not neccessarily to an unreadable point!)
Was this a personal project? and where can I see more of your work, I'll be sure to share it and tell everyone I know about it too! :)
  • Beautiful! Really nicely shot and the music really works. Love the text font too. I quite like the fact that it doesn't feel like a trailer, but more like we're watching the opening 3 minutes of the actual documentary.
