Trying to break into the UK radio industry as a producer but finding it really difficult!

I’ve just completed my 3-year stint of producing in student radio and just finished 6 months producing the breakfast show at a local community radio station on top of that. Now I want to start on paid roles but really struggling to do so and would love some advice on how to do so as there jobs are rarely ever posted or any other advice in breaking into the industry!
Also would love to connect with anyone in the radio industry! HMU and let’s chat radio!

  • I had really similar experiences when I was first starting out as a journalist. Sometimes you have to be bold and reach out to the places you want to work even when they aren't advertising. Making those initial connections and building up your contacts will help put you on people's radars for when something comes up. You might not be able to meet for coffees but you can always ask for a quick Zoom or phone call to at least introduce yourself :)
