  • Firstly, if unsure which direction to take, ask what you have to offer that sector / role that others don't. Then ask the question of whether the sector / role you are considering switching to is on the upward or downward trajectory. Saturated and soon-to-be-saturated markets are typically hard to enter, and rarely yeild decent rewards. Whereas, new sectors / role can offer the contrary. Having assessed these factors, consider what actions you will need to take to not merely launch a career in a new sector / role, but to sustain it. The world of work now heavily saturated with misleading information, it can be easy for a novice in a field to make assumptions that are false. For example, don't assume that just because something, such as an individual or company, has lots of Instagram / social media followers, that translates to income, let alone income sustainability, and particularly so in the creative field. Often things aren't what they appear to be on the surface, so dig deep in your research and don't allow enthusiasm and optimism to lead you up garden paths that lead to nowhere.

But, above all else, be prepared to go the extra mile, and especially if you are a relative late comer to the sector / role. Changing career takes significant work, typically involves a reasonably high degree of risk, and though many succeed in a new career, vice versa, many don't. Understanding what your risk limit is, putting in place a realistic plan, and building a support network that will help you build your experience, network, and visibility in a new sector / role is vital. Do all these things and you stand a good chance of being one of the career change successes.
  • Hi there,

I recommend having a good amount of savings before entering another job role just incase.

Also your mental health state - make sure you're taken care of first, look into the job role and make sure it's fully right for you.

Preparation - start doing research in depth on your role position, ask questions, look online such as Youtube videos or reviews on how other people cope with that role.

Make sure your resume/CV and reference is in order (alas looking good! - it's always best to leave on a good note if possible)
