What is your experience with Kavyar?

I came across this platform and although it is mainly for photographers there are some briefs for illustrators too. I have submitted my work to two magazines I thought I was suitable for and now I am being spammed with emails/messages where they ask me to pay to be featured. I regret submitting to the platform and I am not sure if I have just been unlucky or if the platform is only used for these type of scams. Anyone else has experience here?

  • I stopped using the platform two years ago. I’m not sure about you, But the main reason for submitting was to get exposure. The problem is that the majority of them had horrible engagement on social media. Also, I don't believe they were making a profit as I don't think anyone buys the magazines.

    If you think about it strategically, they are making money off people's work, and then you’re given like a 10% discount to purchase the magazine starting $40+ excluding shipping, not even VOGUE is that expensive haha. I guess the only good thing is that you could submit to a few so that your portfolio looks more commercialised. But other than that NOPE😭
  • Kavyar is an interesting platform; I think more photographers should use it but should NOT be fooled by “being publish” because they are mostly if not all are vanity magazines that do not publish, they merely print on demand and have a rather decent social platform.
    They have no stock; and occasionally expect you to pay them when it should always be the other way around unless you’re an advertiser which none of them seem to have.

    Some are better than others like Selin, Pump, 6X etc but most are an excuse to play “editor in chief” as make multiple monthly version of naked or beautiful women.

    It’s a platform with ALOT of good portrait & fashion photographers, models, make up artists etc, but equally a lot of delusional ones on top of it.

    The issue you’re having is something you shouldn’t have to worry about but they are very insistent on. To avoid this, before you submit, you must opt out from upsell offers.

    And you have to do this every time; you can also turn off email and push notifications in the setting as well;
