Where are the best places for UK copywriters to find work?
Hi,
Does anyone have any advice for where best to try and find work as a freelance copywriter?
I’ve heard bad things about Fiverr, and it seems like such a hassle.
Thanks in advance!

- All over the place, to be honest! Email outreach, existing connections with brands, LinkedIn, Indeed, The Dots, Reddit, freelance job emails, Twitter, marketing agencies.
- @Abitha Pallett Do you have any recommendations for FB groups? I didn't see that many for writing.
- I find industry facebook groups really helpful for job opportunities. Also there are some fab email newsletters for freelance writing jobs such as Sian Williams' Freelance Writing Jobs!
- Many years ago, I started by direct mailing (snail mail) key figures in the largest agencies where I live, Jasmine, selling my services as a graphic designer. It was basically a black & white press ad on a piece of A4 paper.Used my pitch to showcase my writing & idea skills.Made sure to follow up my initial mailing with another ad. Then called those I hadn't heard from.No-one wanted me as a designer. But six out of 10 said they liked my writing. One gave me a three-month copywriting contract. No website (didn't exist back then!!). No experience. No (writing) portfolio (I was a rookie graphic designer up to that point, so could evidence ideation). The rest is history.Naturally, I'd recommend anyone starting out to do the same…
- I’m facing more or less the same question really and so not sure how much I can help. Most copywriters I know had to mine their contacts for work and eventually recommendations etc came in. Friend of mine emailed loads of startups and worked cheap/free to build up those relationships. I would avoid Fiverr unless you are just trying to get a portfolio. Good luck. I’ll let you know if I find any other good ways to source work.
