Why do we love windows with a view, be that of nature, a street, or overlooking an entire landscape?

I'm doing a mini side-project/article on windows and views, and the main question I'm asking myself is: why are we obssesed with a window with a view (though I suppose a view from a balcony is sort of similar too)? I've used the HITRecord platform to explore the idea, and I have an answer for myself; but I would like to know what people think here, or whether they could direct me to articles that discuss such an idea.
Thanks!

  • Exploring the allure of windows and views is a fascinating concept. The obsession with a scenic view from a window or balcony often ties into our innate desire for connection to nature and the outside world. Considering researching how replacement windows can enhance these experiences and contribute to well-being. Get more idea here https://worstbrands.com/worst-window-brands/
  • Great question,I think a window is a framing device that confines a space ,having a certain view has a major impact on our mental wellbeing ,especially if we are confronted with it every day . There is a real calm for the brain when the view is non distracting so for example seeing the sea or a rolling landscape will promote stillness a connection with nature ,the brain has less to focus on visually vs something like a cityscape . However I do think a city scapes can bring on a feeling of aspiration and makes us think about how small we are in the great scheme of things . I personally like to see trees ,i like having a gently reminder of seasons ,I find it calming and love seeing the view transform over time .

    have a great day :)
  • I think it's about being able to see something other than our own world, so possibility, hope, quest for something. I remember during the lockdown this site https://www.window-swap.com/Window went viral
