About this event

Art Unlocked is an online event series brought to you by Art UK in collaboration with Bloomberg Philanthropies. Each week, different museum and gallery curators and directors from across the UK will deliver a 30-minute talk on selected works from their collection.
For our latest talk, join Art UK and Clare Pye, Chairman, Tabley House Collection Trust to hear how Sir John Fleming Leicester was the first aristocratic patron to support British art and artists, rather than imported Old Masters, undertaken at time of national emergency and the wars against Napoleon.
Art Unlocked is delivered over Zoom Webinar and can be accessed via the event page once you have registered. There will be a short Q&A session after the talk.
The talk is free but there is the option to donate to The Tabley House Collection and all donations are greatly appreciated.
About The Tabley House Collection
The Tabley House Collection, owned by the University of Manchester, is displayed at Tabley House in Cheshire.
The Collection is based on a great Regency picture assemblage commissioned and collected by one of the first aristocratic patrons of British Art, Sir John Fleming Leicester Bt (1762–1827). Other pictures were added by the Leicester family. There are approximately 12,000 objects in the Collection that include; furniture, historic musical instruments, decorative arts, costume, and items of family history. The library is formally owned by the John Rylands Library and showcases the many interests of the Leicester family.
