Are you a young person aged 18-25 and want to work in film, TV, live streaming? Welcome to a programme that breaks down barriers to entry and unlocks opportunity.
This 12-week intensive course in Live TV Broadcast and content creation will give you the skills you need to progress in the industry. You’ll get the opportunity to work on ‘real life’ productions, giving you hands-on experience of working on artistic content for a major arts organisation.
The Roundhouse is one of the few venues in the UK with an in-house broadcast facility, bringing our exciting live arts and music programme to screens across the world.
About the programme
Behind the Lens takes place in two parts
The first 6 weeks you will receive training and hands-on experience in film and broadcasting including production, camera operating, sound, storytelling, live directing, vision mixing and editing. This part of the programme will culminate in participants delivering a broadcast or capture of a show from the Roundhouse main space.
Part two will then take these skills and place you in a ‘production company’ style collaborative environment. Over the 5 weeks you, together with your cohort and supported by an industry exec producer, will develop and create an unscripted live broadcast show.
This hands on content creation experience will give participants working knowledge of the skills needed for entry level employment in the industry
We’ll wrap up with a final week showing you the next steps for starting a career in film and/or live TV and streaming.
Behind the lens is supported by Garfield Weston Foundation.
Opportunities following the programme
On completing the programme, participants will join our cohort of alumni and be eligible for further support through employment opportunities, training, traineeships, networking and talent development.
About the tutors
Lead tutors are experienced industry professionals, they are supported by guest filmmakers, technicians, crew etc alongside Roundhouse Broadcast & Digital staff.
Do I need any particular skills or experience to take part?
We are looking for young people who can demonstrate an active interest in filmmaking or screen production and maybe some experience of creating video, but we don’t mind what tools (software, equipment, media etc) you used or how you did it.
You don’t need to be an expert, if you have an enthusiasm for film, tv and live streaming, Behind the Lens is for you.
The Roundhouse champions diversity, equity and inclusion in the creative industries. We believe in a just society and in the benefit for all gained from the richness of diverse experiences and expressions within the cultural output.
