“There is a creative fraction of a second when you are taking a picture. Your eye must see a composition or an expression that life itself offers you, and you must know with intuition when to click the camera.” Henri Cartier-Bresson

Join the Leica Akademie for this one-day introductory workshop on street photography at the Leica Akademie, Leica Store Mayfair.

Leica has played a central role in street photography for over a century and its cameras have been the choice of many iconic photographers over that time and continue to be the choice of many great photographers today. This workshop will aim to teach you the skills required to take great street photos while increasing your confidence in composing striking pictures in the street.

In this workshop you will learn about the history and theories behind street photography, how to compose street shots, manage camera settings and focusing techniques, exposure control and how to remain calm and relaxed when photographing subjects in the street.

Schedule

The workshop starts in the Leica Akademie for a welcome coffee and an introductory presentation on the history of street photography. This is followed by a back-to-basics session to get you up to speed on the correct technical approach to street photography, including a thorough overview of: Controlling manual camera settings including Aperture, Shutter speed and ISO and
Manual focusing tips include learning the Zone Focus System.

Following this you will be ready to head out into the bustling streets of central London for a practical street-based workshop with hands-on guidance and instruction from Robin and our Leica Akademie tutors. During this session, the group will stop for a social lunch and refreshments.

The practical element of the workshop will comprise 3 to 4 hours light city walking with breaks and time to shoot as a group, individually and with guidance.

The workshop finishes back at the Leica Akademie for an informal review of the group’s images from the day. Helpful tips and critique will be offered, including advice on how best to approach editing your images.

“Which of my photographs is my favourite? The one I’m going to take tomorrow.” Imogen Cunningham
