Organised by New Writing North

New Writing North are committed to providing opportunities for young writers in the North, so we’re delighted to bring you this exciting online workshop from gal-dem.

Aged 18-25? Are you a new or aspiring writer looking for ideas and inspiration? Want to find out more about what editors look for in a story? Or want to learn practical journalism tools and skills? Join gal-dem for this interactive workshop, led by Culture Editor Kemi Alemoru.

During the workshop gal-dem will share some of their editorial practices, experiences, and tools for generating and pitching your ideas to publications like theirs. You will be encouraged to think of different ways to source stories and generate ideas, as well as compelling ways to present these ideas. gal-dem will share who they are and what they do, their editorial and pitching processes and what they look for in a story. There’ll be time for you to ask questions and gal-dem will share tips on the best ways to pitch to them.

This workshop is open to those aged 18-25 living in the North. gal-dem is a publication committed to sharing perspectives of people of colour from marginalised genders, and so we particularly welcome workshop participants with this lived experience.
