Magnum Photos has developed a special program for image-based practitioners in London in order to help them develop their practice, focusing on providing sessions that offer feedback and practical tips on the foundations of the photography market. Join Magnum photographers for a series of lectures on documentary storytelling, one-to-one portfolio reviews and surgery sessions.
Sonia Jeunet, Education Director and Bayryam Bayryamali, Education Manager at Magnum Photos will be hosting informal sessions titled Magnum Cafe each afternoon on demystifying the business of the photography industry and identifying realistic routes into photographic employment.
Why should I join?
Portfolio reviews are a great opportunity to network and gain professional insight into an ongoing or finished project, whether new or from the archives. They are a perfect opportunity to receive guidance on your ideas and approach, discuss editing and sequencing, and identify your next steps toward figuring out your photographic vision. Reviews leave participants with a fresh perspective and renewed motivation.
Lectures delivered by Magnum photographers encompass subjects ranging from their personal work to their journeys into photography. Attendance of the talks is a thought-provoking and inspiring chance to learn from world-renowned image makers.
How does it work?
During the morning sessions, two Magnum photographers will present their practice and bodies of work across the years. You will participate in a series of in-depth lectures about the core of documentary photography.
In the afternoon session, each participant will take part in two meetings of 20 minutes each, conducted one-to-one with a preferred Magnum photographer. During these consultations, the speakers will provide you with honest and constructive feedback on your existing work.
Magnum Cafe: Sonia Jeunet and Bayryam Bayryamali will lead afternoon workshops on ethics, copyright, contracts, how to improve a website, how to negotiate prices, how to prepare a pitch, how to look for fundings, and much more.
