About this event

For this talk, we're delighted to be joined by documentary photographer, management consultant and executive coach, Ginger Chih.

Ginger Chih has been documenting her worldwide life and travels for over four decades. When she was just three, her family fled China, to Japan, the USA and later the UK. She has experienced the physical, emotional and spiritual traumas that arise from migration, which is a strong theme in her work. As a student of Tibetan Buddhist teachings and its meditative practices, she uses her skills as a photographer to document the Tibetan Diaspora and its preservation of cultural and national identity in exile. Over the past ten years, she has photographed numerous visits to over two dozen Tibetan refugee communities in India and Nepal.

During this talk, Ginger will share her career journey, and lessons she has learnt along the way. She will be sharing her project: The Dalai Lama: Leadership and the Power of Compassion which crafts an intricate tapestry of the Tibetan diaspora, finely woven through accounts from the Dalai Lama’s storied life, the everyday lives of the Tibetan people, and the insights of a leadership coach who has applied the principles of Buddhism in her professional life. There will be copies of the book available to purchase on the night.

Hopefully, by the end of the talk, you'll be equipped with a new perspective on the therapeutic power of photography, and a deeper understanding of some of the unique challenges and highlights of working on a long-form documentary project.
