Description

We are seeking Bartenders, Front of House, and Events Team members to support the Exchange Team by delivering the café/bar and events service to its members and the wider Somerset House residents.
Somerset House Exchange is an affordable, collaborative coworking space for small businesses and freelancers working in the arts, culture, and creative industry. You will have a commitment to members to support them with their professional development and to help them expand their network in the industry. Thus, we are actively programming community socials, events, and networking opportunities throughout the year.
Based in Exchange, the café & bar is a hub for members and Somerset House residents, functioning as a daytime café and a location and catering provider for various community events, including a bar on select evenings.

We offer flexible working patterns on a zero-hour contract to suit your lifestyle. Shifts will vary between the times of 9am - 4pm Monday to Friday plus the potential for regular evening work depending on events.
Key Responsibilities:
Bar & Cafe
  • Ensure cleanliness and tidiness of premises and equipment
  • Serve food, hot and cold beverages, including speciality coffee and drinks during events
  • Greet and make members and event attendees feel welcome, customer service always being a priority
Event Support
  • Assist with event set up and break down
  • Assist with ticketing, managing guest lists, and act as an event host
  • Assist with on-site event delivery and troubleshooting
General Duties
  • Build positive relationships with residents, proactively gathering feedback to ensure continuous improvement of services
  • Create an inclusive environment to encourage collaboration and creativity
  • Act as a point of contact for members’ questions and requests
  • Undertake any other duties and responsibilities as required in line with the requirements of the role.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise:
Experience:
  • Front of house and back of house experience working in café / bars/restaurants
  • Experience delivering excellent customer service as part of a team while working in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in supporting and delivering events
  • Experience working with artists and creative communities (desirable)
  • Previous work experience as a Bartender (desirable)
  • Coffee brewing and/or cocktail-making experience (desirable but training will be provided)
Skills
  • Excellent customer service skills with a positive approach
  • Proactive attitude and capacity to work in a fast-paced events environment
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Good eye for cleanliness
  • Use and maintenance of cafe/bar machines & equipment, cocktail-making experience  - desirable
  • Being punctual and reliable is key to the success of the role
