What we do
At Perlego, there are 100 of us working hard to make education accessible to all. In this digital age, we believe that anyone should be able to learn anything at any time. Knowledge should be more accessible, not locked behind sky-high price tags.
Over the past 5 years, our goal has been to support students across the UK & Europe to access quality books. The next stage of Perlego is twofold: 1) expand our support to students globally, and 2) build a product that goes beyond the book, a platform that helps students study smarter and more effectively.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone structured with an analytical mind. Someone who loves to solve problems and is detail oriented.
The Data team is responsible for ingesting, processing and surfacing data to the business to support decision-making and efficient operations. We maintain a data lake that houses internal and external data, and a reporting platform that supports self service for everyone in the company. We’re also responsible for analysing data and building visualisations to help business stakeholders to be data driven.
The Content Operations team are responsible for processing book files that allow books to be available on our platform to read. These book files includes metadata about the books themselves.
Between the Data team and Content Operations team we maintain a wealth of book data that supports a number of operational processes across different teams.
You’ll be based in the Data team but will have the opportunity to work with both teams to learn how data is captured, processed and stored, and how it is used to drive business value.
What you’ll do
  • Write Python scripts to extract book data from XML and CSV files
  • Perform data cleansing tasks on the data returned
  • Load cleaned book data into our book enrichment process
  • Build data pipelines to integrate and regularly refresh data onto our data lake
  • Monitor data pipelines and troubleshoot issues
  • Connect book data to other data about books using SQL
  • Make the data available for reporting and analyse it
Requirements
It’s perfect if you:
  • Enjoy solving problems
  • Are detail oriented
