Based in the London office, the Head of Press, Europe will lead communications activities across Europe for one of the world's most prestigious art auction businesses.
This role involves directing all aspects of external communications to align with Phillips’ mission and strategy for growth. The position calls for a seasoned and dynamic communications professional with strategic acumen, creative flair, strong media contacts, superior writing and adept crisis management skills.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversee all aspects of media relations in Europe, including institutional messaging, CEO and Global Chairwoman interviews, global crisis communications, and providing communications guidance to specialist departments worldwide.
  • Develop and execute a communications strategy that leverages a unique voice aligned with the Company's brand and vision.
  • Learn the language and substance of the Company's business and become an expert in translating it for external audiences. Develop strategies to establish a growing and consistent media presence for the Company.
  • Proactively address potential reputational issues and provide counsel to the business during crises, maintaining issues management and crisis communications plans.
  • Foster relationships across the organisation to support business objectives through communication strategies, working with specialist departments to embed communication strategies into their work.
  • Develop executive visibility initiatives for senior leaders and spokespersons in line with the overarching communications strategy.
  • Create and implement press strategies for auctions, exhibitions, and events, with Press Officer support.
  • Manage external resources and cultivate relationships with key journalists and media outlets.
  • Oversee events, including press launches, press views and other initiatives as required.
  • Manage regional PR consultants and agencies across Europe.
  • Manage and guide Press Officer in day-to-day activities.
  • Integrate the Company’s social media program into the publicity plan, in collaboration with the Digital Content team.
  • Support business development and proposals as required.
  • Liaise with clients and their representatives on publicity efforts.
  • Support internal communications, including all staffs and other initiatives as they develop.
  • Perform additional duties as needed.
Professional Skills and Experience
  • 7-10 years of professional experience in public relations. Experience in art-related PR is preferred.
  • Exceptional writing skills.
  • Track record of sound judgment calls and capabilities for corporate and reputational matters.
Working Conditions
  • Ability to work additional hours to meet business deadlines, as required.
  • Work is primarily undertaken in our London Office, 30 Berkeley Square, London, W1J 6EX
