In a nutshell
The Lifestyle Press Assistant role is an integral part of the Product PR team, helping support on the Lifestyle press office, plus wider creative campaigns.
The role will cover a broad range of products from the Sainsbury’s group – including Argos, Tu Clothing, Habitat and Sainsbury’s Beauty.
The role is suited to someone with a strong interest in interiors, fashion, beauty and wider consumer categories such as tech and toys, with a desire to work in PR and communications. You may have graduated from university or have excellent experience working in retail or hospitality. What the role involves
  • Working in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
  • Staying close to consumer trends and competitor activity to seek opportunities for media coverage
  • Drafting media alerts and press releases to share with journalists and be a trusted point of contact within Sainsbury's and its brands
  • Dealing with day-to-day incoming and proactive journalist enquiries, such as image and sample requests
  • Working with colleagues and suppliers to source products
  • Tracking and sharing media coverage key products, sharing media coverage internally
  • Running weekly team meetings and contributing to wider Product PR and Corporate Affairs meetings
  • Assisting with the planning / running of events, such as our influencer/press launches and virtual events
  • Assisting with the planning and creation of the Tu and Habitat photography shoots and lookbooks
  • Working with our PR and influencer agencies and getting involved in the creative ideation process for PR campaigns
  • Being part of the wider Product PR and Corporate Affairs team and getting involved in relevant broader initiatives
What skills you need to have/ show
  • Demonstrate great communication skills, both in person and in writing
  • Good people person – proactively builds and nurtures relationships
  • A can-do attitude - full of energy. enthusiasm and curiosity
  • Be a real team player, willing to get stuck in and work with colleagues at all levels
  • Highly organised, able to manage projects and drive deadlines forward
  • Solution seeker and self-starter - overcomes obstacles to secure what is needed
  • Confident using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Keen interest in interiors, beauty or fashion trends, as well as wider cultural trends
  • A love for the media be that monthly magazines, social media, breakfast TV shows or newspapers
  • Keen interest in, and understanding of, social media platforms and influencers
What you need to be doing
  • Liaise with a variety of teams across the business, including Product PR and the broader comms teams, buying and design teams, studio, product, marketing and digital teams - building and managing relationships internally to collate information needed for PR
  • Develop and grow a strong network of press contacts and ensure internal databases are monitored and consistently updated
  • Support the day-to-day running of the Lifestyle press office
  • Oversee sample management for projects including; media, influencers, shoots
  • Support the planning and implementation of communications and community marketing initiatives
  • Show a keen interest in Lifestyle trends/developments across the industry beyond retail
What decisions I can make
  • Have a say in upcoming PR and influencer plans, including creative campaigns
  • Suggest products to journalists, developing relationships with them and becoming a trusted resource
