MR PORTER are now seeking a talented Merchandiser to join the team based in our offices in London, Shepherds Bush. Reporting into the Senior Merchandiser, you will be tasked with supporting in all aspects of the merchandising process to plan, forecast and trade a department, which ties in with the luxury division’s strategic direction, maximizing the profit opportunities for the company. Here is a breakdown of what you’ll be doing:
  • Work with Buying to plan by brand, category, price and size, the seasonal OTB and ensure it is monitored closely in season and comes within budget
  • Work with the Buying team to establish a balanced range of merchandise suited to the customer profile of the company. Work together to make recommendations for changes and improvements to maximize sales potential and profit within the company
  • Negotiate with suppliers in a tough but fair manner to secure exclusive ranges/brands and optimize the profit margin
  • Ensure intake business margin is maintained and proactively improved season on season
  • Manage WSSIs and create seasonal weekly forecasts which are in line with business KPIs
  • Produce seasonal and ad hoc analysis that can be used to make strategic decisions within the Merchandising/Buying team and also throughout the business
  • Monitor sell-through and deliveries of all vendors and take decisive action to deal with their performance
  • Ensure department of responsibility’s sales, profit, spend, closing stocks are accurately reported to the business
  • Be innovative and to be open to forecast upcoming trends and ensure that fashion moves on and changes
  • Be familiar with both local and overseas market situations and trends
  • Manage department markdowns, margins and closing stocks, ensuring maximum profitability
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to strive to improve and challenge existing processes
  • Manage the business relationship with the suppliers involved in their department to maximize sales and profit
  • Communicate accurate information to internal Sales and Marketing teams for use in the production of marketing plans
  • Always demonstrate and reinforce the company vision and values and provide the necessary leadership to gain commitment from the Merchandising team (owning, retaining, and developing your talented team and business)
  • Identify and execute ways to increase team member’s loyalty, satisfaction and pride with the MR PORTER experience
  • Reinforce the company message to the team and reinforce the need to drive profitability at MR PORTER through the merchandise mix and full price sell through
  • Provide on the job coaching to ensure that the direct reports can meet and exceed the requirements of the role
  • Identify and facilitate opportunities for additional training for the team
  • Monitor and review performance of direct reports, identify individuals who are ready for promotion or require performance improvement plans
  • Take appropriate corrective action with team members who fall below standard (in consultation with HR Department)
  • Complete and present performance appraisals based on defined goals and objectives for their team members in a timely manner

  • A track record of creating positive impact on business through merchandising, ideally gained in a multi-brand luxury retailer
  • Good judgement and decision-making skills
  • Confidence in suggesting calculated risks
  • Strong market and customer awareness
  • Passion for product, with good brand awareness
  • Experience in working in fast paced, professional & luxury retailer, with excellent communication skills
  • The Ability to meet stringent deadlines
  • The Confidence to deal with/present to colleagues at all levels of the business
  • Strong negotiation skills
