The Backward Vendor is a homage to craft, to creation of quality, workmanship and creative innovation. The Backward Vendor does not rely or look to the current trends, we look to traditional craft , to traditional techniques, to handmade process and design (but/ implementing/ with our own peculiarities.These values, these qualities are with the conscious, discerning consumer in mind, people with their own unique sense of style. Our design concept is rooted in the everyday life; work, leisure, travel and so forth. We design, create and produce quality handmade leather shoes, bags, garments and homeware using natural, raw materials and processes. Our works, our collections are made with the greatest care, with the purpose of guiding, informing and introducing the art of Handmade, the unique qualities, the perfection of imperfection of leather. ​ Our studio is situated in Hackney, London primarily functioning as a showroom and as a leather workshop space. We will use our showroom to display goods for sale all year round, ranging from limited edition shoes displaying special techniques to showpieces, these inspired by various periods of time and occupations, (leather gloves inspired by traditional gardening pruning.) Our workshop will primarily focus on the traditional techniques used in the handcrafting of leather goods, from leather cutting to naturally dyeing leather. The focus of these workshops are aimed to encourage you to handcraft, to introduce, to teach, and show you invaluable skills that can then be taken and applied for your own personal use.
