Understanding and Learning To Love My ADHD for @bricksmagazine BRICKS WORLD newsletter “ADHD is no walk in the park. It can cause significant impairment as symptoms persist over time. According to ADHD 2.0 (2021), having ADHD costs a person nearly 13 years of life on average, and about two-thirds of people with ADHD have a life expectancy reduced by up to 21 years. Depending on how it is managed, it can be a uniquely powerful asset, or an immutable curse. The decipher between the two is understanding. A defining moment in my ADHD journey was understanding the importance of love. People with ADHD are lovers by nature. We tend to have unbridled optimism and see the best in everyone. We are children at heart. We don't hold back when our passions run wild. The power of connection is significant for ADHD brains. Encouragement, words of affirmation and positivity are crucial for our wellbeing and growth. My fellow Queer Neurodiverse community showed me ways of loving (and understanding) myself I never knew was possible. Friendship has saved me time and time again.”
