R&B star Monique Lawz is an all-round creative from North London, and her talents are truly infinite. During such unprecedented times, Monique has been able to mould a bad situation in a good one by thinking outside the box, even when it comes to her nails. As a vibrant addition to the music scene, Monique Lawz cannot and has not gone unnoticed. Even Wiley, the Godfather of Grime, couldn’t wait to collaborate for her new single release, Worth It, shot in her hometown, Jamaica. Throughout school, Monique noticed she had a love for creative literature and remembers writing poetry from a young age. Naturally, Monique started applying her poetry into lyrics which later became noticed during studio sessions for her skill in writing. Now she says she writes lyrics for any type of artist from “R&B, Pop and lyrics for rappers” and has been focusing on this as she adjusts to this new way of life caused by the coronavirus. Admitting that her “plan” for promoting her latest single has been compromised as she would’ve loved “being on the streets tryna get people to listen”, she’s says she has received amazing feedback with people saying her song keeps them excited for summer as it has such a fun and upbeat vibe. Although music events have paused in the UK and around the world, Monique still has big plans for the future and says “she loves to perform and loves to be right in there bussing a grove with her dancers.” Monique says her favourite performance to date has to be at the Oh My Music Festival last year in Amsterdam alongside artists like Meek Mill, Roddy Rich and C Biz. Like a true artist, Monique Lawz has a strong work ethic and believes in being her best self by “learning new things and building” on what she has. Growing up she recollects memories of wanting to do her “absolute greatest” and says she has done this by “looking up to artists and seeing what they do” as inspiration. Proving to be an absolute boss, Monique says she “loves to be involved in every part” of her music whether that be singing, producing or creative direction. Monique Lawz even “had full creative direction for the video” saying that she decided on everything, “even down to the clothes”. During lockdown she’s even been able to use her talent by creating her own nail extensions (handy!) into something more. After being offered to collaborate with nail brand, Sculpted, Monique wastes no time as she embarks on creating a nail set inspired by her latest song, “Worth It”. Although Monique has described herself as someone who “loves staying at home”, she also loves to create a statement whether it’s on stage or through her social media channels, all you need to do is follow her Instagram profile, @moniquelawz. It’ll keep you up to date with her new music and you may even see an IGTV takeover. Stay tuned!
