'Elemental'- Mary Katrantzou Fall 2019

Drawing inspiration from the elements of 'Earth, Wind, Water, Fire', the embellishments for this collection were sumptuous and tactile. We worked with ostrich feathers in rich jewel tones, dip-dyed feathers, tonal fabric manipulations, and created shimmering mixed-technique looks using sequins, beading, small crystals and silk thread work. We explored movement and fluidity through these applications. The ostrich and coque feathers had a kinetic element to them, feeding back into the element of Wind that had informed our starting point. Further more we interpreted cloud like textures through ruffles, scattered sequins, and raindrops as beaded fringing suspended along the edge of a ruffled bolero.
