  • Gemma Greaves
To celebrate International Women’s Day, Gemma Greaves, Managing Director at The Marketing Societyand the (first) female president of the Solus Club, spoke to us about her top-tips on success in the creative industries.
Over the rest of the week, we’ll be highlighting their work, thoughts on what it means to them to be in the creative industries, their inspirations, aspirations, iconic role models and sage words of advice.
What does it mean to you to be female and in the creative industries?
I am proud to be part of an industry that leads change and embraces diversity. I have never felt being a female has held me back, quite the contrary. For me it’s about talent and being the best you can be – not what gender you are. I love working in a creative industry; every day is different, full of energy and it is a joy to work with talented people with a passion for what they do.
Do you have words of wisdom for other women looking to break into the industry?
Make sure you find what you love, surround yourself with people who make you better and complement you – those who radiate energy, always avoid the drains! Be the best you can be, it’s about talent, not gender. And importantly, stay humble.
Who is your all time female creative icon?
Vivienne Westwood. She is the ultimate style icon who has never been afraid to push boundaries and be uncomfortably controversial – in a good way. Her clothes celebrate strong women, she is an incredible business woman and has influenced fashion and modern culture in a big way.
