One of Karen’s proudest achievements is creating and launching MediaCom’s Apprenticeship Scheme for 18-24 year olds, working with Tim Campbell, MBE and The National Apprenticeship Service. This is helping to fulfil a personal lifelong passion to find, discover and mentor talent from all backgrounds and classes in order for them to get a foot in the door of The Advertising Industry. The Apprenticeship scheme is the first government approved scheme for any media agency in the UK, working with Outsource Training and leading to an NVQ in Marketing and Communications. Karen has hosted two House of Lords Peers at MediaCom HQ to teach them about the scheme and meet her first ten successful apprentices.
More recently Karen launched Inclusion@MediaCom, an internal program covering a range of subject matters including Authenticity, The Glass Wall (focusing on women) and Mental Health and Well Being. External speakers have included: Judy James, Bev Turner, Baroness Oona King, Stella Creasy MP, Laverne Antrobus and Jonny Benjamin.
Karen championed a Women Returners to Work programme with the organisation Successful Mums, the programme includes an annual event that Karen speaks at. Karen also launched Project Blend with the help of Open Blend. This focuses on helping everyone reach their true potential, and to ensure the next generation of leaders are empathetic, intuitive, successful and most importantly – happy. Karen launched Shine4Women at MediaCom as an empowerment training programme for senior women to help them realise their ambitions. Karen mentors many people across the industry and further afield, these include clients, internal staff and other business people, she takes pride in helping them but often for Karen it is reverse mentoring and Karen gets a great deal out of it herself.
