MTV Breaks

Helping young talent get their first break in creative industries.

In 2013, MTV Breaks was born - an international initiative to inspire and give real life opportunities to the next generation of creative talent around the world, including 20 opportunities to work on MTV tentpole events around the world, and free pop up workshops for the MTV audience.
In early December 2016, we announced that we were looking for the hottest new talent to join us on the set of the fifth series of MTV Shuga, in South Africa.
We wanted to find a photographer to capture all the action behind the scenes on the MTV Shuga set, and a director to direct a whole scene of the show.
We received thousands of entries and our experts for both categories were incredibly impressed by the high standard of the work submitted and by the passion of the candidates, but unfortunately there can only be one winner for each.
Though it was a difficult task to turn away so much talent, we have finally selected our fabulously talented winners.
Director: MLU GODOLA, 21, South Africa

Photographer: ESEOSA IKPONMWOSA, 24, Nigeria
Have you got talent, but need a break to prove it? Well, this is your year! MTV is throwing open its doors to give you the chance to show what you've got.
