Mutt Magazine arrived into the independent print scene as a result of a project collaboration with Stack Magazines. Created by myself and my fellow dog-loving co-founders, Alice Harrison and Rosie Spence, Mutt Mag is fuelled by our love of dogs and compassion for the cause. This magazine is a vibrant and impassioned piece of print which celebrates rescue dogs in all their glory. It was born of the necessity to both honour a dog’s impact on our lives and to educate readers on the contemporary crisis of dog abandonment. Mutt Mag’s mission to celebrate rescue dogs is achieved through its positive approach and candid aesthetic; Offering an undocumented glimpse into their second chance at a forever home awards these pups with the love they deserve by allowing readers to peek through the keyholes of the families and their happy hounds. Inspired by dogs themselves, Mutt Mag forms as the physical manifestation of a dog’s enthusiasm with the design taking a fun, positive and energetic approach to aesthetic with love, care and dedication embedded into every turn of the page. With the aim to evoke the positive emotions felt when rescuing a dog, Issue One focuses on the concept of ‘Home’ and has been lovingly created to evoke the feelings of belonging and excitement as experienced when welcoming your newest family member. Since having launched in 2017, Mutt Mag has received an astounding response from not only our readers but also the print industry itself with the likes of DOG Mag and Four & Sons welcoming us to the ‘pack’. After just a few months Mutt Mag had made its way onto the shelves of various independent retailers and was selected and shortlisted as Student Magazine of the Year at the 2017 Stack Magazines Awards.
