The City Talking: Tech in Leeds is a film about tech innovators, past and present, who have made an impact on the city and the world.
My primary role was as animator on this project, working with particle systems and video compositing.
The film takes heavy stylistic cues from Everybod's Gone to the Rapture, a video game that features towards the end of the documentary that features golden particles and 'ghosts' throughout.
Each section begins with narration while a camera pans across a physical set designed to reflect the upcoming theme. Using particle systems and camera tracking I populated these shots with fields of dust motes, later on placing 'ghosts' into theses shots, which were created by motion tracking actors and congregating dense particle fields around their bodies.
I also composited video footage onto computer screens in these sets, designed & animated retro-styled computer display info cards to introduce each person in the film and created an animated PC boot screen for the teaser campaign.
