Commissioned by Magic Light Pictures and in partnership with Forestry Commission England, The Gruffalo Spotter augmented reality app invites families to follow a trail of clues, tracking footprints of their favourite characters from The Gruffalo. Once families have spotted the characters, they are brought to life in augmented reality using the Gruffalo Spotter app. Visitors can stand next to the characters and take photos as keepsakes using their phone or tablet. The new app takes family forest walks to new heights, mixing technology with the real world it encourages children to get exploring, firing their imaginations and enabling them to have an all-new forest experience.
It was such an interesting project to work on, I especially enjoyed getting to grips with AR and the whole creative process of building an App. Understanding UX and UI was especially interesting as it was so new to me. It was also a great experience dealing with such a well known character like the Gruffalo and attending test days with families, seeing their reactions to our app. The whole project has been a pleasure to be a part of and I can't wait for people to enjoy it at the Forestry Commission sights around England.
