  • Mail Rail event branding: uSwitch Awards 2018
Mail Rail event branding: uSwitch Awards 2018The uSwitch Awards took place in The Postal Museum this February 2018, and my design borrowed heavily from The Underground Railroad book jacket, the iconic London tube map and retro gaming with added risograph feel. The top image is the base design I created to inform the event branding throughout. This was used for the emails, leaflets, presentation, posters, and cue cards.
  • Event brand identity: uSwitch summer networking event
Event brand identity: uSwitch summer networking eventThe objective of this brief was to create a brand for uSwitch's summer networking event that was both cosmopolitan and quite different to their usual company design guidelines, without comprising their brand identity in the process. After some research, I decided in my roughs to capitalise on the recent texturised trend of risograph-like gradient effects with noise in my first image. I began by taking the location of the event, Queen of Hoxton, and finding images of the skyline from the rooftop bar where the networking event was to be held. I then took the two most recognisable blues and a light pink accent colour from uSwitch's colour palette as a base for the branding colours (later adding a dark grey and a bold pink accents using the colour scheme generator, Coolors). Then after experimenting with gradients, textures and abstractions of shapes I created the base image for the event's brand identity (shown at the top of this project). Starting with one image like this meant that I would be able to maintain continuity for this branding exercise throughout the design of the assets.  This colour scheme and brand identity were immediately signed off by the team and I got straight to work applying it to the three sets of emails sent out using Mailchimp, and the name stickers and signs used at the actual event. The team had specifically asked for playful name stickers that would generate conversation from the off, and I was excited to do something a bit more wacky than the bread and butter 'HELLO MY NAME IS' fodder. These worked a charm on the night, and we provided white Posca pens to make the writing stand out, and in the follow up report into the successfulness of the event, the sentiment from the guests was overwhelmingly positive.
  • Storyboarding for Man City & Bundesliga
Storyboarding for Man City & BundesligaSo far I have worked on three storyboard projects since June 2017: June 17: Completed a storyboard pitch for Space (the Agency) to present to Bundesliga (the German equivalent of the Premier League). The storyboard had a two-day turn around, with 30 hand-drawn cells required. The pitch won the business of the client. August 17: Completed a full shot list for the director Alex Graham of Aggy Media for a series of promotional films for Man City's charity, Cityzens Giving. November 17: Another project for Bundesliga x Space, but this time the project was to create beat boards – to capture the major story points for the client and outline the direction for the film crew for their Christmas 2017 Youtube campaign.

  • Children's illustration
Children's illustrationMy Dad was visiting my Granny and they were reading the paper together when they spotted an 'illustrator needed' advert. I phoned up Matthew Brandis and we spoke about a story he had written for his daughter's (Anna's) birthday all about her and her older brother, Tom, foiling a dastardly plot by two despicable crooks to steal the Queen's crown when she visits a primary school. I emailed him examples of drawings I'd done before and we struck up a partnership. I got the first ten illustrations over in time for Anna's birthday (two weeks later), and the rest finished so that Matthew could sell copies of the story at the Christmas carol concert to raise money for the school. I was also surprised to learn that I was picked over two other illustrators. This was a tricky job at first, as I felt that Matthew had created this whole imaginary world of this story in his head, which I could only be adjacent to whilst creating my own ideas for the same world, like a parallel universe. There was so much love that had gone into Matthew's story that I really felt the pressure to align both my imagination with the world created in the Matthew's mind. The only way I could do this was by keeping Matthew up to date with my roughs and early drawings, and the process really fell into place from there.
