About me
In his 14-year graphic design career, Alberto worked in some of the world’s biggest branding agencies. With every new brief, he would often start by picturing a new typographic style, even before thinking of a potential colour palette or direction for the brand’s imagery. After creating many brand identities and various side projects involving type, in 2014 he realised it was time to focus completely on his true passion: creating high quality fonts.

  • Branding with Type self promotion
    Branding with Type self promotionFrom the very beginning, it was clear for us that our business cards should showcase our fonts on the best possible way; we also wanted to represent the care and effort we put into each design, into each individual detail of every single glyph. The best way to symbolise that was by combining high quality paper with the craftsmanship of traditional printing methods. It was also a great excuse to put Quinta and Flat Sans through the rigours of silkscreen and letterpress printing processes. Here is
  • Bespoke font prototyping
    Bespoke font prototypingDuring two weeks on September 2015, we developed a bespoke font prototype for an international branding agency pitching for a new business. Working remotely with the Creative Director in New York, updated font files were being released almost daily, incorporating feedback and allowing the design team to develop the brand’s look&feel in parallel.
  • Bw Modelica
    Bw ModelicaBw Modelica is a minimal, robust, reliable & pragmatic geometric sans. Its clean shapes and generous x-height makes it a very competent face for both, display and body copy purposes. It’s available in 8 weights with matching oblique italics. The main font files include two stylistic sets allowing for more expressive options, specially for display use. SS01 and SS02 are also available as stand-alone font files, for those who would prefer to use them directly without activating the OpenType feature. www.brandingwithtype.com/shop/modelica/
  • Bw Stretch
    Bw StretchBw Stretch is a compressed grotesque suited for display but also body text purposes. Inspired by early wood-block screen-printing sans serif designs, it spreads across eight weights from Thin to Heavy, covering all European Latin languages. It includes extended features like small/petite caps, fractions, case sensitive forms, discretionary ligatures and disruptive titling alternates.   • Flat Sans
    Flat SansFlat101 is a leading Spanish digital agency, specialising on e-commerce and CRO solutions. They’ve been growing rapidly for the last couple of years and it was time to reconsider their visual expression. The creation of a new bespoke font was a key part of the brand refresh. Flat Sans is a slightly condensed, squared sans, with open counters and a generous x-height optimised for screen based usage. Its playful and unique retro sci-fi design would carry the personality of the agency across any application. Illustration style developed with Narcís Rodriguez
  • Bw Quinta Pro
    Bw Quinta ProBw Quinta Pro is a new face that instantly feels familiar. It’s a contemporary humanist sans that is approachable but well-grounded, getting any content delivered with efficiency while looking smart and professional. Designed by Alberto Romanos, it includes many OpenType features supporting Extended Latin and Cyrillic.

We’ve spent most of our careers creating and commissioning fonts for brands, so we understand how important it is to be different and to stay relevant.
