About me
Hi! I am Alexandra, I have many interests in the art and design world, Fashion design is the area I chose to specialise in when I was younger, since then I have studied at Northumbria University and graduated with a BA Fashion Design degree. I have interned for a year at 2 high end designers both in London and Paris, and would love to get into the industry in a full time position, I am open to working in various areas and would love to develop my skills off other like minded designers. I specialise in womenswear pattern cutting, however I create fashion illustration, I am a advanced seamstress and in my spare time out of my current job I am trying to develop my own brand. I have recently designed and made 4 bridesmaid dresses for my brothers wedding and it has given me a taster of the wedding industry which I would again be open in looking into. I love all areas of design so therefore an open to throwing myself into any area. Check out my website where I have shown my final collection, all based on a stately home in Northumberland, I designed, pattern cut, print developed and styled the whole collection myself, and am working on my next collection at the moment.
Projects
  • Regal Rocco
Regal Rocco'Regal Rocco' is a Spring/Summer collection inspired and influenced by Wellington Hall a stately home in Northumberland. The collection is inspired by the interior details of the home, looking at details such as prints in the chairs, floor tiles, staircases, armour rooms and the main influence being the Rococo styled ceiling in the main room of the Stately Hall. The ceiling was the inspiration for the print design, which is featured in the two piece suit, the jumpsuit, the bag linings and silk
  • Cosy Country
Cosy Country'Cosy country' is an interior design project I worked on, working with another designer at Tallantyre Interiors, I created theses mood boards for a showroom scheme. The concept was 'cosy country' creating a modern fresh vibe for the show homes using a range of fabrics and wallpapers with a fresh warm colour palette.

    Morpeth, United KingdomFull Time
Tallantyre Interiors is a business that has been around for 60 years, they specialise in all areas of interior design from full home schemes, to hotel furbishment, restaurant interiors etc. The Morpeth showroom has vast range of fabrics, wallpaper, paints, flooring etc to choose from giving you a wide range to work with when it comes to designing for any type of scheme. I work as an interior design consultant, I first started the job in October 2017 where I spent my days studying the collections, and gaining knowledge of each area they specialise in. Creating a mental library of contents ranging in all fabrics and prints we have to cater for any design project. I am now trained to create schemes, work out estimates for clients and generally work with clients to create colour schemes, find the perfect wallpaper, any job that they may require I will assist them with. I also have started a new instagram page for the company and I am also running this on a daily basis, gaining more social media presence which is creating more interest and therefore gaining more business for the company. Working in interior design can relate well to the fashion industry and is allowing me to learn more about colour schemes, patterns and fabrics, my knowledge is expanding and interiors have always inspired me in my fashion design so I am able to push my design in my spare time.

    Design AssistantChristopher Kane
     - London, United KingdomInternship
Christopher Kane was my second internship I worked at during my degree. The vibe was a little different to Roland Mouret in terms of the studio itself, it was in Dalston in Hackney a very trendy young area of London, He started off working from his house in London before renting part of the building he is now in, over the years with his name getting out there in the world he now has taken over all floors of the building and the company is still expanding. As an intern this was very inspirational to me, starting off on your own and creating such a massive empire between himself and his sister Tammy Kane. They are and always will be a huge inspiration to me and my work and it was an honour working with such an amazing team of talented designers. Jobs during my time at CK: Pattern cutting assisting Seamstress assisting Fabric manipulations Cutting of patterns and fabrics Pattern placement Assisting all departments including the designers General errands for the CK team Factory visits Working backstage dressing models at London fashion week Working in Paris with the buying team for the Spring/Summer 16 collection ( womenswear) Working in Paris with the buying team for the pre fall 16 collection ( menswear and womenswear)

    BA Fashion DesignNorthumbria University
     - Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom
Northumbria University is where I chose to study Fashion Design. I did a 4 year degree here and came our with a BA in Fashion design. The course was very diverse in which it covered many areas of the industry, giving you tasters in my first year to see what you may want to progress in moving into your later years of University. The main areas I excelled in were, fashion illustration, pattern cutting, womenswear, accessories design and print development. In our 3rd year of university we were able to do a placement year in which I worked 2 placements in London and Paris , the first I worked for Roland Mouret in Bond Street, the second I worked for Christopher Kane in Dalston, Hackney. The internships I did through the year really opened my eyes into the industry and what it would really be like to work for a fashion house. The atmosphere every day was booming in the workplace, there was always so much going on, never a dull moment and to work with other creative like minded designers was very inspiring. I learnt how to work in such a fast paced environment rather quickly, as there is no time to dawdle when creating a collection. This really helped me in my final year of university, getting as much done in the time allocated to create the best work I was able to produce in such a short amount of time. I pushed myself to extremes of working hours, effort and precision that I didn't know was in me, and I have been able to keep that work ethic ever since. I am dying to get back into it and would love to opportunity to work in fashion houses again, to keep developing my skills and experiences. I miss the fast paced and adrenaline working environment. It made you feel so alive. Since graduating, I have been applying to jobs ( with it being so competitive ) it is hard work getting into, nevertheless I am very motivated to get into the industry again. I am now working and have been for the last year and a half in Interior design, yes it isn't fashion however they relate very well and I am able to bring my skills over into interiors learning a lot more about pattern print and colours which has made me a better designer with more knowledge of the way pattern, print and colour can be used on a larger scale and in garments.
