About me
A second year student studying Textile Design at Nottingham Trent University (UK), my specialism being Printed Textiles. Highly creative designer with an understanding of trends, colour and imagery. Proficient/Advanced in Photoshop Basic in Illustrator As part of my degree I take cultural design studies called Design Culture and Context. I really enjoy this part of my course as it gives me a good base and understanding on design in context and culture. Since beginning my degree I've created two Illustrated essays and one visual product, where I have had to create visually pleasing layouts of text and imagery. This is how I will create my illustrated dissertation. So I am also really inspired and interested in Editorial Work. I've recently just won a live project with industry company ROMO interiors with my university, where myself and my 3 team members had to create a collaborative collection of swatch samples for SS15. The reasons we won, were that our collection was presented extremely well and professionally, we completed extensive market research, and created a well collaborated collection of samples that contained a good variety of designs for interior application and finally that we had worked extremely well as a team. Once my degree is compete in 2015, my dream is to relocate to Australia to live and work permanently. I currently work at Monsoon Accessorise as a retail advisor, working on sales, merchandising, customer services, handling cash and returns, ensuring the shop floor is clean and tidy at all times especially peak times to ensure sales. The products Monsoon sell are heavily embellished, woven, or surface printed garments and accessories; therefore I am able to use my knowledge and love of textiles to succsesfully sell good products to our customers.
Projects
  • George @ Asda
George @ AsdaI completed a 2 week placement for the Girls wear Design Team focusing on Print and Graphics. I was helping with the day to day running of a large design company which consisted of putting parts of Mood boards together, researching blogs for new and inspiring ideas, organising journals and trend books, going through pantone rings and helping to organise samples. I was also set my own brief to complete in those two weeks where I created my own small collection of prints for baby wear/girls wear for SS15. I was also to consider different fabrics my prints would be applied to and what embellishments and details I could include to make the garments more interesting for younger girls or baby. As a progression from this I started to apply my designs to key garment shapes for SS15 creating outfits and different variations offering plainer alternatives to sit alongside a printed garment.
  • Nature's Fury
Nature's FuryPart of Project 3 in my second year at Nottingham Trent University, where I am having to write my own brief deciding on themes, technical processes, and fabrics I'm going to use, stating what my outcomes will be and how I will develop my work to achieve successful outcomes. Nature's Fury is a concept I have put together when wanting to research further into our climate changes. Capturing the atmosphere and exploring different ways of natural disasters and extreme weather in screen printed design. I aim to focus on mark making rather than literate drawing for my visual research where I will be able to really further explore technical processes on my own dyed fabrics in the print studio and also play around with interesting compositions. I want to explore with reactive dyes, illuminating discharge, clear discharge, and devore (extraction). MORE WORK WILL FOLOW.
  • Trend Tracking
Trend TrackingTrend Tracking in the High Street. Researching into high street shops, spotting trends and finding where it came from on the catwalk. Given a budget to purchase an entire outfit with accessories from the high street to me photographed on a model, and then put into the Nottingham Trent Fashion Map Archive.

This placement was very successful for me I feel I learnt a lot from the environment and the design teams around me. It has given me more confidence in what I am capable of and helped me realise a company I'd like to work for.
