Avril Evans is a multi-award-winning Film, TV and commercials director who gravitates towards audacious stories with an unflinching point of view and a dose of Noir.
Nominated for the New Voice Awards for Debut Director – Scripted, a recipient of the Edinburgh International Film Festival’s Talent Lab and is an Edinburgh TV Festival’s Ones to Watch alumna.
Avril directed an episode of BBC One's prime-time flagship returning drama series Call The Midwife before returning to Channel 4/Lime Pictures’s Hollyoaks to direct their Christmas block.
Recently, Doctor Who producers Bad Wolf chose Avril from a shortlist of 25 Directors UK members as the first participant in a Doctor Who HETV Placement Director’s scheme funded by the BBC and Sony Pictures Television to address the underrepresentation of women of colour in directing.
Avril will support direction on the next season of Dr Who for BBC and Disney+, starring Ncuti Gatwa and led by Russell T. Davies!, working alongside the Lead Director, Alex Pillai, and directing the second unit.

Before working on the Christmas episodes of #Hollyoaks, I had the fantastic opportunity to direct an episode for series 13 of the nation’s favourite drama, Call The Midwife. As the daughter of a Caribbean nurse who came to help build Britain in the sixties, directing this episode and working with a terrific cast and crew has been an incredible experience.
