About me

An award winning, Director/Senior Creative of short form content and films, originating and directing high profile promos and campaigns including a CBBC RE BRAND - filming key CBBC talent, JOY OF TEXT, RIP OFF BRITAIN, ANTIQUES ROADSHOW and BOOGIE BEEBIES. For 10 years Avril worked as a Director/Senior Creative at BBC, Red Bee Media, winning Promax awards for outstanding work. During this time, driven by her passion to tell fresh stories with an unflinching point of view and captivating images, she wrote and directed short films. Avril's first, “LIP SERVICE”, received runner’s up prize in a BBC competition and also won BEST short film at the first “Images of Black Women” Film Festival. After selection and participation in The BFI Talent Scheme, Think. Shoot. Distribute. (2007) and The Berlin Talent Campus the following year, Avril was commissioned by Steps International/Arte/ZDF to represent the UK for the “Why Democracy” online event to write and direct her short film “FAMOUS LAST WORDS” starring Majinder Virk (Britz/The Arbour). “FAMOUS LAST WORDS” was screened at the Berlin Film Festival (February 2008) In 2009, Avril was commissioned by Film London for her film “PLAYGROUND” and the following year, she was commissioned to direct 18 x 1 min drama films for EASTENDERS:E20. Avril shadowed directors on BBC continuing series - EASTENDERS, HOLBY and DOCTORS and high end dramas such as CBBC’s WOLFBLOOD and Tiger Aspect/Fifty Fathoms/SKY’s FORTITUDE. Avril continues to freelance in creative agencies and broadcasters and has worked for BBC Worldwide, Eastenders, UKTV, OHTV, Endeavour Communications and Scripps Network Interactive. Currently, Avril is preparing a feature film pitch for a panel of film executives and developing her own projects and scripts with other writers. Represented by agency Kitson Press.
