Hi there! I'm Barbara - graphic designer based in London, specialising in branding, art direction and graphic design. I was born in the South of Italy, then moved to Milan, then to London. Well, what a life! Going back to where my story started, I began my studies with Product Design, an experience that gave me a strong practical way of designing, then I took my master degree in Graphics and Communication Design at Politecnico di Milano. I'm basically restless so I worked as graphic and editorial designer, as web designer, I started my wonderful experience with photography (that I always considered just a hobby, but actually is my passion and side job), I did product management, UI and UX. At the end, I found my way with Branding and Graphic Design, moving more and more to Art Direction everyday. It can be a long way to the top folks! I’m definitely a perfectionist, but I can understand time and budget limitations, so I won't stress you out too much if you don't want to, but I do believe in hard work and I'm not afraid of pressure. Commitment is the word. Visiting a good exhibition, having an interesting conversation or finishing a good book help me focusing. A passionate love for art, photography, literature and fashion is often my source of inspiration: a painting always communicates with its viewer, forcing him to think. These thoughts can be good or bad, but they will be there, real, for sure. That’s the aim in my projects, never leaving people emotionless.
I’m in charge of improving and developing the Corporate Identity, ensuring the correct representation of brand core values, mission and vision through different media and applications. I work mainly with the Marketing, PR, Business Development and UX departments, directing the development of the creative concepts but also designing the actual visuals and graphic assets, both digital and printed. I’m also successfully directing a team of three, working with them on photography and content development for all platforms. I manage relationships with external resources, partners and suppliers.
I developed mockups and user cases for different types of projects, designing both Graphic User Interfaces and Graphic Identity for apps on mobile, TV and web platforms, managing also with the graphics assets for different devices. I worked on different Operating System at the same time, i.e. iOS, Android, Windows Phone. Working in the Devices&Application Farm division, a sort of agency-like environment of the company, I was also in charge to manage relationships with vendors from the main technology brands, i.e. Samsung, Nokia, Apple, and develop a strong collaborative attitude with divisions and branches from all over the world.
I started my work with Leo Torri managing the Studio’s promo materials, designing adv posters, photos collections and similars, and after assisting the main photographer during the shootings I started to develop independent shootings with different subjects for different clients, i.e. Moleskine, Bilumen, Alessi, Dupont. During these months I had the possibility to test my ability to turn conceptual ideas into representative images through graphic and visual composition skills.
My responsibilities in the agency were connected mainly with editorial graphics, designing layouts for advertising materials, books and magazines. Despite my junior position I always manage projects from brief to print, personally supervising communication with clients. Representing their ideas through concepts and drawings, leading to a real final product, was so exciting and gave me the possibility to achieve knowledge about printing methods and tools too.
