I'm a hands-on and creative content and editorial expert who's worked for global brands as diverse as Stylist, HSBC and Harpercollins. My experience spans editorial (print + digital), content strategy, media + communications training, brand positioning, tone of voice, partnerships, copywriting and everything wordy for a range of clients from agency, to in-house, corporate and third sector. Recent clients include HarperCollins, Don’t Panic Partners, Now Teach, Den Creative, David Phillips Group, HSBC and Pentland Brands. Before this, I was a journalist for ten years, editing and writing for national publications including Good Houskeeping, Stylist, Glamour, Grazia, The Telegraph and the Sunday Times Travel, amongst many others.
I run face-to-face training sessions for corporate clients of this brand language consultancy. The training focuses on sharpening up delegates' writing and communication skills - on everything from tone of voice, to customer comms, writing better reports to becoming brilliant editors. Created a brand positioning proposition for their client Knight Dragon's latest property development at Greenwich Peninsula. This also involved running a workshop with senior executives.
I led on numerous copywriting projects for their client Camm + Hooper, creating compelling copy for a number of their websites, brochures and pitch decks.
I led on numerous editorial projects for this charity which gets senior people into teaching. I led on a content case study project for their website and also created, flat planned, commissioned and edited the Now Teaching member magazine for new trainees.
As Interim Partnerships Director, I took over leading and developing Hoxby's Partnership strategy over six months. I initiated, developed and created the Presenteeism Survey - a global research poll designed to fully explore the impacts of presenteeism in the workplace on productivity and happiness - specifically to raise Hoxby's profile and create a platform on which they could comment credibly on the issues they campaign on (freelancing and flexible working). Media coverage of the survey included Metro, PR Week and CityAM. As an Associate, I worked on numerous international client projects for Hoxby, including as a Content and Social Media Strategist for Dermalex, and as a Copywriter for Castle Pubs and Talent Deck.
As a content strategist and editorial consultant for this global brand management company, I spearheaded an overhaul of content both internally and externally working within the communications team. On internal communications, I drove a 161% increase in content creation and a 33% increase in employee engagement on internal channels, through creation and management of original content including; long/short form copy, video, social, infographics, interviews, reports and news, as well as research and data-driven digital insights. Externally, I oversaw an increase in content and pageviews on Pentland.com news. I created, wrote and edited a new brand tone of voice guide and subsequent two-hour interactive workshop for employees, which I delivered on numerous occasions. I developed a structured content strategy for the business incorporating digital and print platforms as well as devising a content framework and CMS for the communications team in line with the company’s strategy goals.
Curated, confirmed and managed the speaker programme at Stylist Live 2016, ensuring the editorial direction and session content reflected the Stylist reader and brand. I created a four-day programme of over 150 talks and workshops across seven different stages/rooms, delivered by 130+ speakers. The content spanned everything from careers, feminism, business, lifestyle, tech, culture and travel, providing varied and inspirational content each day. I booked a roster of top talent names to speak at the event through agent/PR negotiations – including Caitlin Moran, Marian Keyes, Katherine Ryan, Melanie C, Jo Malone, Tanya Burr and Paula Hawkins amongst many others. I secured both external and internal talent to host sessions and stages, briefed them in, provided scripts and managed on-site. My responsibilities also included liaising with event sponsors including Not On the High Street, W channel and Dyson to create dynamic event content on their sponsored stages/rooms in line with their commercial goals. Additionally, I recruited and managed the Talent Producer and Editorial Assistant, as well as an on-site talent floor team to look after speakers; managed the talent budget for fees, expenses and travel; managed the process of writing and editing speaker and host contracts, briefs, scripts and ran a rehearsal day for hosts with the company CEO and Stylist Editor; created detailed event schedules for all hosts and managed changes and edits; worked with the Marketing team on content assets, editorial pages and the Commercial team on content-relevant sponsor liaison; worked with the Stylist editorial team on co-ordinated approaches to talent and the digital team on additional content and event communication; approached and secured 2016 charity partner for the event, Breast Cancer Now.
I have undertaken two book projects for Harpercollins: 2013 - author of Union J: The Unauthorised Biography 2019" ghostwriter and editor for Chessie King's book Be Your Own Best Friend
I curated, edited and wrote all celebrity content of the UK's biggest selling monthly womens' magazine. My key responsibilities included securing exclusive cover star and 20+ editorial pages per issue. I liaised closely with influential agents and PRs in order to secure top talent for exclusive interviews and photoshoots, and built up an impressive contacts book and portfolio. Over the years I interviewed hundreds of inspirational names, including Nigella Lawson, Julie Walters, Joanna Lumley, Amanda Holden, Dame Judi Dench and Kirstie Allsopp – as well as negotiating sensitive coverage for the worldwide exclusive story of actress Hayley Mills' triumph over breast cancer. Additionally, I edited and commissioned copy from freelance writers, managed junior writers in-house; worked closely with senior Good Housekeeping team to develop its strong editorial content in the cross-platform landscape, securing talent to appear for Good Housekeeping at external events and being point of contact for the brand.
