About me
I'm an experienced creative generalist, who has been working at the intersection of marketing, design and product over the past three years. I place creative problem solving at the heart of what I do; my blend of experience, from working for tech scale-ups to freelancing with independent publishing presses, means that I take a holistic approach to design. I focus on solutions that engage with core challenges and I'm interested in how what I can do speaks to your bigger picture. I have a BA in English Literature from the Univeristy of Exeter and MA in Publishing from UAL. My thesis, 'Cultivating Serendipity in Digital Book Discovery', won awards at the 2020 London Book Fair.

  • Mard
MardMard is a children's picture book, about a clumsy polar bear who keeps going unnoticed and just wants a cuddle, written by me and my brother. It was inspired by our friend Max, and we based it on old jokes, stories and the fact that he looks a bit like a polar bear. We initially wrote and self-published it as a surprise for his birthday. I was responsible for the illustration, design and production, as well as promotion of the book.
  • Arboretum
ArboretumArboretum is a book that takes seventeen individual unique and ancient trees around the world and renews their mystical, mythical qualities. By bringing together the legends, narratives and discourses that surround them, we explored these trees as sites for forging multidisciplinary stories and playing with the many ways they are deeply rooted in our cultures. Above all else, we were interested in re-mythologising the trees in Arboretum. We wanted to steer clear of creating a fact-file, and inst

Through this very hands on MA I have experience of the business and creative practices central to publishing. During my time at UAL I managed a number of creative projects: developed a concept through to a printed book; led the branding and visual identity of the 15th Annual Publishing Innovation Conference; produced a podcast series for the 2018 London Short Story Prize. My MA thesis 'Cultivating Serendipity in Digital Book Discovery' recently won the 2020 APE Prize and Outstanding accolade, due to be presented at this years London Book Fair.

I won the prizes for my MA research into 'Cultivating Serendipity in Digital Book Discovery '. This primarily explored the magic of serendipitous book discovery in physical environments and how this could be cultivated, in different ways, in digital information discovery tools. For this, I built a framework for how serendipity is experienced in physical book discovery and used this to reflect upon the limitations and exciting potentials of the technology that underpins how we encounter information in digital environments. I was due to present these ideas at an Insights seminar at the London Book Fair before it was cancelled due to COVID-19.
