Duty Manager

WHSmith's

Oct 2016 - Mar 2017
  • Ilford, United Kingdom
  • Full Time
  • As there was no assistant manager in this branch, I worked directly under the manager, so I had many responsibilities to keep the store running efficiently. Whenever my manager had a day off or was on holiday, I was the acting manager for the store. ⦁ Managing a team of 10+ - One of my main responsibilities was looking after my team on a daily basis, delegating what actions I needed from them, answering any queries they had and just supporting them in general ⦁ Paperwork and HR work – I would sort through emails, help with banking, answer response forms, file and sort all news/magazine related paperwork, going through the stores stock losses etc. ⦁ Organising the daily tasks for the store – WHSmith has daily task/actions which involve new offers, new stock, price changes, recalls etc. I would sort and print them and delegate them to my staff. ⦁ Training new members of staff/work experience – Whenever we get new staff/work experience in it was down to me to train them and make sure they knew all the health + safety. Before I left I trained up a supervisor to take over my job. ⦁ “Planogramming” the store – In WHSmith the shop floor changes weekly, so my job would be to implement this changes, it involves changing the shelving, stock and pricing around.

Retail Supervisor

Toolstation

Aug 2015 - Sep 2016
  • York, United Kingdom
  • Full Time
  • As there was no position of assistant manager in this particular branch, I had many responsibilities and worked directly beneath the manager, and whenever they had a day off or had holidays I was the acting manager. ⦁ Creating new rotas – Implementing the weekly rotas, and to aid my colleagues I would make them up 4 weeks in advance so as to sort any social clashes ⦁ Paperwork and HR work – My manager would delegate a lot the paperwork to me, so he could spend more face time with the customers. So I would be in charge of hiring new staff members and setting up all their paperwork including health + safety, banking etc. As well I would deal with the daily emails from our regional manager and all other paperwork jobs. ⦁ Banking – I primarily dealt with all the money that would come in and out of the branch, I would bank yesterday’s takings in the morning and order any change we needed. ⦁ Training new staff, and delegating current staff – As I hired new staff I would also have the responsibility of training them up – this would include teaching them health + safety, tills, delivery etc. Delegating my current staff force would also be part of my day to day activities, I would always try to play my colleagues strengths. ⦁ Customer Service – Whenever I get chance I did also work on tills and serve the customers, as I liked to keep in touch with our regulars.
