I have been a part of the H&M team for nearly two years now and have gained many different skills from my role. I have developed and improved my customer service and communication skills as I am regularly put in situations with members of the public that need to be handled calmly and politely. I also take on managerial responsibilities regularly as I am trusted and throughout my degree have been getting gradual manager training.
I regularly attend open days and live chats for Nottingham Trent University. When I do, I share with the potential students my experience of university life and my knowledge of the course, tutors and support. I enjoy participating in this activity, responding to questions or queries and expanding on details relating to the course that aren’t included in the guide.
Alex Smith, owner of Ideas on Paper, asked me to photograph him and his store to accompany an article written about his independent store. My image was featured and credited in XCity magazine. I am regularly asked to photograph for smaller events such as independent blogs writing about independent stores and other promotional material.
I was accepted onto the Grads4Nottm week where I received a week of work experience with the Creative Quarter. I was asked to design and create an eye- catching information leaflet for the company. At the end of the week I then presented my research, development and final idea for the leaflet in front of the rest of the Grads4Nottm groups. This completed piece was well received and the feedback was very positive.
In this job role I was regularly placed in the children's section, this meant that I had to fit their trainers, casual and school shoes correctly, otherwise it would make their feet grow incorrectly. I felt a lot of responsibility with this role and felt I was almost doing a service. This role improved my communication skills as I had to spend a lot of time with one customer at a time.
Matalan gave me relevant skills such as time management, organisation skills and customer service skills as I was trained to be a part of the customer service desk. I also learnt how to use of the tills, handling cash, minding the fitting rooms and tidying the store at the end of the day.
