In 1995, first grade teacher, Mrs Jenny Brunt, awarded Chesney with the marvellous writing prize. And just like that, a lifelong penchant for storytelling was born. 23 years later, Chesney is still telling stories – but this time she's writing for brands, both local and international alike. Working across all platforms including traditional media, as well as digital, Chesney has been lucky enough to spend five years in the company of some of Australia’s most talented creatives at BD Network Melbourne, and then McCann. In the process, she has created some things that she's, of course, immensely proud of. Chesney’s work has been recognised for both creativity and effectiveness, and in 2015, she was given the remarkable opportunity to tutor eight students as part of the annual ADMA Creative School. This proved to be a valuable lesson for both pupils and tutor, and as part of this, Chesney gained crucial experience in teaching and empowering young creatives. With an absurd (but unobtrusive) obsession with grammar, and a passion for melodious copywriting, Chesney is a true believer in making people's lives just a tiny bit happier, funnier, or more interesting through advertising. Outside of work, she's an almost-obsessive fan of David Attenborough documentaries, an all too ambitious baker, and a drawer of ridiculous doodles. With long stints at BWM Dentsu Melbourne, and Australian independent agency, The Royals, I have spent the past 18 months working on various projects for clients like realestate.com.au, iSelect insurance and finance, Deakin University, and Latitude Financial Services.
Working at a multi-national agency means that I was able to write for incredible global clients like L’Oréal Paris, Maybelline New York and BIC, as well as great local clients including tigerair, the University of Melbourne, the Melbourne International Film Festival, and AGL. I’ve also worked with government clients like WorkSafe, and the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation. My role included things like: • Copywriting for a variety of media, including digital, web, and social • Generating ideas and creating on-brief solutions to client problems • Producing and executing creative ideas • Liaising with clients and actioning client feedback • Proof-reading and editing outward facing documents
From September 2012 to February 2015 I worked as a Copywriter at BD Network. My experience in a small agency taught me how to work with clients small and large alike. During my time at BD I was lucky enough to collaborate with brands like Peugeot, Nickelodeon, Lurpak, Schweppes and Whiskas. My role included: • Copywriting for a variety of media, including digital, web, out of home, print, and social • Generating ideas and creating on-brief solutions to client problems • Social community management and content creation for brands like Whiskas, Schweppes, and Lurpak.
My university degree gave me a solid foundation for the world of advertising, covering not just marketing and the history of ads, but also art history, visual arts and digital design. As a person who often collaborates with Art Directors, as well as Designers and Finished Artists, my background in art has helped to inform my work as both a Copywriter and as a Creative.
