About me
Hi I'm Chloe. I love creativity, interactive technology, craft and social good and try to combine all of them into my work. I run a design studio that specialises in creating beautiful physical products that benefit peoples lives. Our first product is Music Memory Box for people living with dementia and their families to reminisce, reawaken and reconnect. Over the years I have worked with hundreds of people living with dementia across the UK and Japan - dementia has become an endlessly interesting and complex issue I have learnt about from my own family experience and now so many more families. We are currently raising investment to put this product into manufacture. Our second large project is called trove, which is for children to record and keep their most precious objects and narrated stories in. Trove can be useful for all children's sense of their own identity, but especially for children in care and adopted children who have been an integral part of the design process. The control of a child's life story is put back into the childs hands for them to create and curate their own story and future. The studio's work has a particular focus on personal identity (fading, building, changing), personal resilience through difficult times and making/communicating the hard to explain or invisible links between objects, memories, emotions and wellbeing. Music Memory BoxMusic Memory Box is a transformative product changing the lives of those living with dementia and their families helping them reminsce, reawaken and reconnect. Pitching for investment - my experience - Medium article“I assume that man in your slide deck is your husband?” No, no he isn’t. And why would you assume that? Yes he’s on the team as a Sales and Marketing adviser, but no, he’s not my husband. Would that change whether you’re interested in investing in the company I founded? He’s around about 56 years old, and I’m 27. Recently I’ve been pitching a lot for investment and I wanted to share some reflection on the highs and lows. Maybe it might help me to write it down, maybe it will help people in a similar position. First, an introduction — I’m Chloe, I’m Founder and Director of Studio Meineck, a design studio set up for social good. We create beautiful tech products that benefit people’s lives. Our first product is Music Memory Box, for people living with dementia and their families to reminisce, reawaken and reconnect. It is currently in a pilot with three UK care home groups, and the evaluations are looking great. Using the product can reduce anxiety and confusion and improve communication, enjoyment, independence and well-being that all contribute to a higher quality of life for not only the person living with dementia, but the family carer and care staff too. • trove
troveTrove is a self curated and narrated treasure chest for children’s most precious things. Trove enables children to record a story to a precious object and then trigger the story when the object is played with. With support from leading adoption agency, Coram, this product aims to help children, especially those that have been adopted or are in care, understand who they are and to support them through times of change and uncertainty. Trove was designed and created by Chloe Meineck, who runs Studio Meineck, a social design company that specialises in designing with people rather than for people. Trove is an ongoing collaboration with Dr. Debbie Watson from the University of Bristol who specialises in research with adopted children and children in care.
