About me
Daniel grew up in Somerset and is now London-based. After several years of jobs such as chief bottle-top popper at a Sunny Delight factory, a security guard at the Royal Academy of Art and junior barman in Weatherspoons, he graduated with an MA in screenwriting from the National Film and Television School and has since written plays including Turning Barley, The Hobo Code (Soho Theatre), Daytrippers (Theatre Royal East) and Farmyard Rules (Bush Theatre). His 2010 sitcom Gypos was a finalist in BBC's All Mixed Up and performed as a stage play at the Soho Theatre. Previous projects include writing/directing a BBC short starring Olivia Williams (Rushmore) as a giant panda and My Face in Space, nominated for Best British Short at Edinburgh International Film Festival in 2012 and screened at LFF in the same year. He won the BAFTA Rocliffe New Comedy award in 2014 and has since developed projects with Channel 4 & Tiger Aspect in the UK and ID and Sundance in the States. He was one of 15 writers, producers and directors selected for the BFI NET.WORK talent scheme run at the LFF. He’s also written a pilot episode of the Blue Zoo animation ‘Planets’. Along with director Tom Jobbins, he was selected for the Aardman and BFI feature film development scheme. TV script ‘Watchers’ was optioned by Jed Mercurio (Line of Duty) for Hattrick and subsequently taken onto the BBC Drama slate by commissioner Liz Kilgarrif. TV script ‘The Clerk’ was optioned by Yaw Besoah for Dark Films and he’s recently developed a Spanish TV series ‘Lil Beasties’ for director Guillermo Garcia Carsi and Elsenor Studio. He’s represented by Independent Talent.
